In central Somerset we provide a number of excellent support solutions such as supported living, residential care and day services. We also run short breaks for people and their families looking for a little respite.
Discovery runs care homes across the county, regulated by the Care Quality Commission.
We have developed a personalised approach, to enable people to have choice and control in their lives, to choose what they do, who supports them and how they spend their time.
Situated in Bridgwater Greengates is a seven bedded residential care home supporting people with learning disabilities, autism and complex needs.
The Old Vicarage
Located in Bridgwater The Old vicarage is a large two storey detached house equipped with a lift, providing person-centred support to people with varying needs.
Springview is a large bungalow alongside a separate self-contained flat, accommodating up to 6 individuals with profound and multiple learning disabilities.
Northmead House is a residential short break service situated in the village of Puriton, just outside Bridgwater.
Northmead House has 10 bedrooms all of which have en-suite facilities. Each Bedroom has a high low bed and five bedrooms have the addition of overhead hoists.
The team are experienced and trained to support people who have a range of needs including profound and multiple learning disabilities, dysphagia, epilepsy, autism and dementia.
Situated in Yeovil with easy access to the town centre, Selwyn offers both planned short breaks and emergency stays.
The environment has been adapted to be wheelchair friendly and some bedrooms and bathrooms are fitted with specialist equipment and en-suite facilities.
The team have experience and training to enable them to support individuals with Epilespy, Profound and multiple learning disabilities, Positive Intervention, Autism, Moving and Handling.
Rollercoaster is a multi-purpose building situated in a friendly community of Sydenham. We operate from a large activity space on the ground floor that is fully accessible. On site there are kitchen facilities and fully accessible bathroom is completed with ceiling track hoist. There is a fully enclosed grassed garden area complete with vegetable patch and flower borders, all maintained by the people we support and colleagues.
We provide personalised support, supporting individuals to have more independence, choice and inclusion. People we support are enabled to access a range of activities from Gardening, sports, games, cooking, arts and craft, storytelling and trips out in the local Community.
YMCA Building (George Williams Centre) is situated next to the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal on Friarn Avenue just a short walk from the High Street. It is a community building with facilities such as a fitness suite, café area, also the home to Access FM community radio for Bridgwater.
Our activity space is within the YMCA located on the 2nd floor fully accessible by all customers. There is also a fully accessible bathroom with ceiling track hoist and kitchen facilities.
A sample of activities range from sports & fitness, shopping, arts and crafts, storytelling and trips in the local community. We provide person-centred support enabling the people we support to participate in a wide range of activities. We are dedicated to providing support on the specific needs, choices and ambitions of each individual.
Fiveways offers a range of learning and community based activities. We deliver person-centred support programmes to meet all needs, choices and budgets.
Onsite facilities include a sensory integration therapy clinic, kitchen, a coffee bar on staffed by people we support. There’s also a large event space where we regularly hold disco’s and bingo events.
We work closely with the local community to enable the people we support to experience and enjoy activities that are meaningful. We support people with a wide range of skills and abilities to be fully involved in the sessions we offer, whether it be sailing, cooking, sports, working in the coffee bar, getting out and about or simply building relationships and having fun!
St James offers person-centred support programmes to meet the individual needs and preferences of the people we support. At St James we support people to participate in a wide range of meaningful activities; on site and within the local community. We are dedicated to providing support on the specific needs, choices and ambitions of each individual.
On site facilities include an accessible garden area, kitchen and coffee bar staffed by pupils from Fairmead and Fiveways school.
Huntspill day service:
Huntspill Day service is based in a rural setting in West Huntspill, providing activities for people with Learning Disabilities and autism. Huntspill delivers a variety of packages of support, from a few hours a week to five days a week.
Huntspill enables the people we support to participate in a wide range of activities which take place on site and within the local community. We are dedicated to providing support on the specific needs, choices and ambitions of the individual, following our principles of person-centred thinking.
Skilled teaching and the right support enables people to achieve their full potential, building confidence and independence.
Across Hunstpill Day service we deliver a number of activities that individuals of all needs can choose to engage in. The sessions are designed to be accessible to everyone within a safe, engaging and fun environment.
Some of the activities we run include:
- Tai Chi (supported by a qualified instructor)
- Well-being groups
- involvement with Community Groups.
