Selwyn team are award winners!

Selwyn team accepting their award

One of Discovery’s Short Break Respite services, Selwyn House in Yeovil, won the team award on Friday at the National Learning Disability and Autism Awards ceremony held in Birmingham. The judges said that the innovative thinking and passion for people with autism and learning disabilities was second to none.

The awards provide an opportunity to celebrate the successes of individuals, teams and businesses in the learning disabilities and autism sector – people and organisations who really do make a positive impact on people’s lives. They pay tribute to people who specifically support those with learning disabilities and autism and also recognise inspirational individuals with a learning disability and/or autism who make a real difference within their communities.

Manager Paul Kitto said: “For the team to be recognised with this national Team of the Year award is truly amazing. Short Break Respite services play a huge part in this in providing support not only to individuals but also respite to their families/carers. Having both of Discovery’s Short Break Respite services, and one of the managers as finalists was great news – to have a national winner is just remarkable!”

Operations Director, Zoe Hembury added: “We are putting Short Break Respite services on the ‘map’ so to speak by showcasing the fabulous support they provide and the difference they make in someone’s life.

I am so proud of what Sam and the Northmead team, Paul and the Selwyn team have accomplished so far. I know all are passionate in developing the service we offer even more! “
