CHRISTMAS has come early for a Yeovil man who is joining Discovery as an outreach worker.
33-year-old Jonathan Peckover has Asperger’s Syndrome. He will support people with autism and learning needs to be independent and to get out and about in their community.
He will enable people to visit places of interest, enjoy sport and hobbies and make new friends at clubs to increase their independence.
To gain this position, Jonathan received help and support from Discovery’s in-house Supported Employment Service.
His employment adviser Gina Pring guided him through his application and job interview. She said:
“I was so over the moon for him when Discovery called and offered him the job, I cried tears of joy. I am just so happy for him.”
Discovery supports people with learning disabilities, autism, challenging behaviour and complex needs throughout Somerset. People are helped to choose how they would like to live their life and given training and support to help them find employment.
Discovery is currently recruiting across Somerset to enable even more people to receive help and support. Its aim is to make a difference to people’s lives every day.
If you, like Jonathan, would like to start the New Year with a rewarding career as a key worker, have a look at Discovery’s job vacancies at here or call the recruitment team on 0300 3039202 and they will be happy to help.
