Jodie has had a great career working in social care, where she has been supported to progress and also able to change roles to something less pressured when she had young children:
“I joined Somerset County Council in March 2004 as a Community Support Worker and was based at Ashbury in Taunton. After a couple of years, I knew I wanted to progress within my career, so I studied for and completed my NVQ Level 3.
I had a great support network around me and was promoted to Support Leader in 2008, a role I stayed in for just over six years. During this time I started a family and now have two gorgeous girls. After my second child was born, I decided to take the pressure off myself and did waking nights for four years as this best suited my home life.
When my youngest daughter went to school I was determined to come back on days to develop my career once again. I still had a passion for progression and I had the enthusiasm and motivation to work for it. I joined Brambles in September 2018 and expressed an interest in career progression to my manager. She supported me to get my confidence back and got me involved in creating person-centred plans for the people we support.
In December 2018 I applied for the Better Practice Lead post and was successful, starting my new role in the following February. Since then I have enrolled for the Management Supervisor Level 3 qualification, which is going really well. Once I have completed this, I will look to join the Aspire programme to further support my career progression.”
