Celebrating Our Everyday Heroes

The first round of Everyday Heroes winners have now been selected and certificates have been awarded.

Congratulations to Debbie Harwood who was awarded the Everyday Heroes Gold Award and to Jade Tilson who won the Everyday Heroes Silver Award. They were given their certificates in the first presentation of the year by Quality Consultants Jon, Ryan and Jamie who wanted to know a bit more about the stories behind why they had been nominated and what it meant to them.

Debbie was chosen for helping a lady she supports to get over her fear of needles and hospitals. Debbie said,

“It means a lot to be nominated, I’m very proud of myself. We now have a clearer understanding of how to support Lydia* with her health needs and have a better quality of life”

The panel also selected Jade Tilson for cancelling her booked holiday at the last minute so she could come in and support the service when they really needed it. Jade explained,

“It feels good to be recognised. My priority is always making sure that the people we support and the staff are all supported.”

The Quality Consultants were very impressed with Debbie and Jade and selected them as the winners from 18 nominations.

They also talked about how important it is to recognise colleagues who go over and above. Jamie explained,

anyone can nominate – families, carers, colleagues, managers or the people Discovery supports.

Don’t forget to nominate your Everyday Hero – that colleague who has gone the extra mile or done something extra special, to ensure the people we support get more from life.

You can now nominate via our website – no form, no fuss. Simply go to https://discovery-uk.org/everyday-heroes/
